Our friend Dr. Caulian in Davao City in the Philippines worked with residents to successfully perform surgery independently after our training visit. Leo is a 37 year-old man from Sultan Kudarat. He was injured after a 30-foot fall from a coconut tree. He landed on his head and sustained a spinal cord injury and dislocated bones in his neck. Leo is a single man who lives with his uncle. He works as a coconut wine maker and earns the equivalent of about $70-$90 per month with no other source of income. Thanks to very generous donations of time, talent and equipment, Leo will be able to live a full life.
